From the time we were very young, men were taught to urinate standing up, while women were told to urinate squatting, and we got used to it in the long run. However, around the world, the posture of urination is not so fixed. In many countries, there are men who urinate sitting down. This raises the question, is it better to squat or stand?
Analysis from physiological structure
The reason why women squat to urinate is actually related to their special physiological structure. One is that women’s urethra and vagina are very close to each other, standing to urinate may make urine run into the vagina, thus causing infection; the other is that women’s urethra is short and straight, which makes women squat to urinate, which is more conducive to the discharge of urine.
In fact, the reason why men urinate standing up is also related to the urethra. Compared with the female urethra, the male urethra is relatively longer and S-shaped. With such a urethral structure, it is easier for men to urinate standing up. Therefore, it is better for men to urinate standing up in their lives.
So what happens when you squat to urinate?
Many men must have had the experience of squatting to urinate, but in the process of urination, they may feel that the urine is very difficult to discharge, not as smooth as standing. This is actually because when squatting, the male urethra has changed, from the original S-shaped transition to a barbed shape, urine excretion has been affected.
In addition, squatting urination may also bring about urine reflux, which makes the bacteria in the body accumulate continuously, which is prone to infection and other situations. Sometimes in the process of squatting to urinate, China will feel a tingling sensation when urinating because of the pressure on the bladder. In the long run, squatting urination, unless the male body is relatively healthy, immunity is relatively strong, otherwise the body’s urinary system and prostate are prone to inflammation, affecting the health of men.
That being the case, why do men in some countries of the world still urinate sitting down?
First of all, sitting urination is not equal to squatting urination, which brings much less bladder pressure and reduces the risk of infection. Moreover, the physical quality of men in some countries is also better to a large extent, which makes them more qualified to urinate sitting down.
Secondly, in the matter of urination, although standing urination is more conducive to urine excretion, it can also reduce the risk of bacterial infection to a greater extent. But not all men are suitable for standing urination, which is mainly the following three types of men:
Married men: Married men are no longer living alone, in the matter of urination, also need to worry about the feelings of his wife. Standing urination may bring splashing of urine or residue on the toilet. If the bathroom is not ventilated regularly, it may allow bacteria to grow faster, which not only affects the health of men, but also threatens the health of wives. This is a little more of a problem than sitting to urinate, so married men might as well sit to urinate.
Older men: As they grow older, men’s physical strength is not as good as before, and there are more or less health problems. Such as vascular congestion, high blood pressure, dysuria and so on, which invisibly makes men’s urination time will be prolonged, the pressure on the legs will be easy to increase, and also has a certain impact on health. If you sit and urinate, you can relax your body and mind, and also induce some dangerous situations.
People with a bad spine: For people with a bad spine, standing to urinate is also not appropriate. Because of the existing problems in the spine, the muscles of these people are in a tight state when they stand to urinate, and the pressure on the cervical spine is greater. In the long run, it is easy to further threaten the health of the spine.
As far as urination is concerned, it is naturally better for healthy people to urinate standing up, which is not controversial. But for married men and men who already have health conditions, they might as well choose to urinate sitting down.
