Why do older people feel dizzy in the morning and better in the afternoon?« Back to Questions List

If an elderly person feels dizzy in the morning and better in the afternoon, it is considered to be caused by irregular work and rest, hypotension, upper respiratory tract infection, sleep apnea syndrome, etc. If there are other obvious complaints, it is recommended to go to the general internal medicine department of the hospital in time to improve the physical examination and follow the doctor's instructions for treatment.

1.Irregular work and rest: If the elderly go to bed too late at night or stay up too late, they may get up in the morning and experience dizziness due to lack of sleep, which can be gradually relieved after resting in the afternoon. It is recommended that the elderly pay attention to regular rest and avoid staying up late to minimize the occurrence of abnormal conditions;

2.Low blood pressure: The pressure of the arteries in the body circulation is lower than normal, blood perfusion in the brain is insufficient, and dizziness will occur when waking up in the morning, and the human body's blood pressure in the morning is slightly lower than that in the afternoon, causing discomfort.

3.Upper respiratory infections: Inflammation caused by viruses, bacteria, fungi, parasites, and other pathogens that invade the nasopharynx and larynx. The pathogenic bacteria that enter the body can stimulate the central nervous system and cause dizziness due to cerebral vasodilation. Treatment may involve the use of targeted medications under the guidance of a physician, such as antibiotics such as amoxicillin capsules for bacterial infections;

4.Sleep apnea syndrome: In sleep apnea syndrome, the inhibition of breathing during sleep at night causes cerebral hypoxia and dizziness, which is relieved in the afternoon when the symptoms of cerebral hypoxia improve. It is recommended to sleep in the lateral position before going to bed to promote the opening of the upper airway. Sleep apnea syndrome should also be treated according to its causes, such as deviated nasal septum, which can be corrected by surgery.

In addition to the above factors, dizziness may also be caused by cervical spondylosis, hypertension, cerebral ischemia, etc. It is recommended to maintain good daily habits and actively control the primary disease to reduce the frequency of dizziness.
